私は、ベナン共和国ウィダにある トリベ孤児院（Orphelinat Sainte Marie de Toligbé） の敷地内に、訪問者用の宿泊施設を完成させるために、このクラウドファンディングを立ち上げました。

この宿泊施設は、営利目的のホテルではありません。寄付に頼りきらない、持続可能な運営を目指すための、孤児院のための取り組みです。

私はJICA海外協力隊として2019年に初めてベナンに来ました。日本でいう役所の福祉課にあたる部署に配属され、2020年にトリベ孤児院と出会いました。

コロナ禍で一度帰国しましたが、2022年に再派遣され活動を再開し、2025年3月に協力隊としての任期を終えました。その後も、個人として孤児院への支援を続けています。

ベナンでは、孤児院に対する公的支援が非常に限られています。資金が不安定だと、子どもたちが病気になっても病院に連れて行けなかったり、生活必需品や十分な食事を用意できなかったりと、深刻な問題が起こります。

そこで、寄付や一時的な支援に頼るだけではなく、孤児院が少しずつ自立できる仕組みを作りたいと考え、敷地内に訪問者用の宿泊施設を整備することにしました。

この宿泊施設は、支援者やボランティア、孤児院を応援してくださる訪問者のためのもので、得られた収益はすべて、子どもたちの食費、医療費、教育費、生活費に使われます。

年間21名の方が1泊してくだされば、孤児院の年間運営費の約1割を賄うことができます。

現在も、洗剤やクッキー、アフリカ布小物、農作物、兎の販売、女の子たちによるローカルダンスの披露など、少しずつ収益活動の幅は広がっていますが、この宿泊施設が完成することで、より安定した運営が可能になります。

昨年の夏には、図書室の一部を使って仮の宿泊スペースを整えました。しかしこれはあくまで一時的な対応です。将来的には最大7部屋を利用できる宿泊施設を目指しています。

このうち2部屋は日本の助成金で工事を進めていますが、トイレの仕上げ、天井工事、電気配線・照明の設置費用が足りません。また、残り5部屋については構造部分のみの状態です。

ベナンの雨季は4月頃から始まります。このまま工事が進まなければ、建物を安全に使用できなくなる可能性があります。

正直に言うと、今は個人の力だけでは限界で、工事を進めるための資金が足りません。

ご支援いただいた資金は、すべて宿泊施設の完成と必要な設備の購入に使います。工事の進捗や支出については、写真や投稿でご報告します。

この宿泊施設は、トリベ孤児院の子どもたちが、より安定した環境で生活していくための大切な一歩です。

I launched this crowdfunding campaign to complete a small guest accommodation facility within the grounds of Orphelinat Sainte Marie de Toligbé, an orphanage located in Ouidah, Republic of Benin.

This accommodation is not a commercial hotel.

It is an initiative created for the orphanage, with the goal of building a sustainable model that does not rely solely on donations.

My Background

I first came to Benin in 2019 as a JICA Overseas Cooperation Volunteer. I was assigned to a department equivalent to a municipal social welfare office in Japan, and in 2020 I encountered Orphelinat Sainte Marie de Toligbé.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I had to return to Japan temporarily, but I was redeployed in 2022 and continued my activities until completing my official term in March 2025. Even after finishing my service, I have continued to support the orphanage as a private individual.

Why This Project Is Necessary

In Benin, public support for orphanages is extremely limited.

When funding is unstable, serious problems arise: children cannot be taken to hospitals when they fall ill, daily necessities cannot be secured, and providing sufficient meals becomes difficult.

I wanted to create a system that would allow the orphanage to gradually become more self-reliant, rather than depending only on donations or short-term assistance. That is why we decided to develop a guest accommodation facility on the orphanage grounds.

This space is intended for supporters, volunteers, and visitors who wish to support the orphanage. All proceeds from the accommodation will be used entirely for the children’s food, medical care, education, and daily living expenses.

If just 21 people stay for one night per year, the orphanage can cover approximately 10% of its annual operating costs.

The orphanage is already working to diversify its income through small initiatives such as selling detergent, cookies, handmade African fabric items, agricultural products, rabbits, and performances of local dance by the girls. Completing this accommodation facility will make the orphanage’s operations far more stable and sustainable.

Current Situation

Last summer, we temporarily converted part of the library into a makeshift guest space. However, this was only a short-term solution.

Our long-term goal is to create accommodation with up to seven rooms.

Two rooms are currently under construction with support from a Japanese grant, but we still lack funds for:

• toilet finishing,

• ceiling work,

• electrical wiring and lighting installation.

The remaining five rooms exist only at the structural stage.

Benin’s rainy season begins around April. If construction does not progress in time, there is a risk that the building will no longer be safe to use.

To be honest, I have reached the limit of what I can manage alone, and we do not currently have enough funds to continue the construction.

All donated funds will be used exclusively for completing the accommodation and purchasing essential equipment.

Construction progress and expenditures will be shared regularly through photos and updates.

Payout & Beneficiary Clarification
