FROM DOME TO DESTINATION: FULLER DOME HOME CAMPAIGN TO COMPLETE VISITOR CENTER
Help Us Build the Future from Bucky Fuller’s Historic Dome Home.
In 1960, R. Buckminster Fuller, the visionary architect who patented the geodesic dome and is considered by many to be the father of modern sustainability—built the only dome he ever lived in; a geodesic dome in Carbondale, Illinois.
From that dome, he taught, wrote, and traveled the world—spreading his revolutionary ideas about design, global responsibility, and the future of humanity.
Today, the Fuller Dome Home stands restored and we’re launching the final phase of our restoration plan: completing the Fuller Dome Home Visitor Center located across the street from the dome home. This will be a space to house unique Fuller artifacts collected over the years, host educational events, welcome school groups, and help Carbondale take its place as a vital part of Fuller’s legacy. This was a vision that the late founder of our organization, Bill Perk, had from the beginning. We are so close. We just need your support.
WHAT THIS CAMPAIGN SUPPORTS:
This GoFundMe campaign is the kickoff to the final leg of our restoration journey. The Visitor Center structure is already in place—with walls made from mostly recycled 3D-printed material (crafted by Mighty Buildings), and a roof with solar panels (donated by AES Solar), and newly installed doors and windows.
We need to:
- Complete payment for those windows and doors
- Prepare the surrounding grounds for construction and accessibility
- Begin the final interior build-out for the Visitor Center
WHY IT MATTERS:
This isn’t just about a building. The Dome Home Museum will be a powerful tool for educators and students. We are a destination for travelers, designers, dreamers and the curious.
From this crossroads of Carbondale, IL - we’re building a museum experience that honors Bucky Fuller’s challenge to:
“Make the world work for 100% of humanity.”
OUR GOAL:
- Initial Goal: $35,000
- Stretch Goal: $65,000 (to match the 65th anniversary of the Dome)
Your donation helps us take this vital next step—and brings us closer to opening the Fuller Dome Home Museum to the public.
