This is my eldest child, Collin. Thank the Lord, he just received his donor kidney.
The wait was long, a little over 3 years. During that time he underwent 8 hrs of hemodialysis every single day. Through it all he remained incredibly positive and always hopeful that each day would be the day he received the call.
His phone call finally came this past Tuesday night. It was after he had eaten dinner, so he had to wait until the next morning, at 5am, to receive his shiny new kidney. He was so excited, that he quickly packed up for the 3 hr trip to Buffalo, NY.
Surgery went well, a very long incision, soon to be scar, now resides permanently along his right lower abdomen, to forever remind him of his second chance at life. He came to from the anesthesia to find out that he was in a lot of pain. They gave him narcotics to help ease the pain, but he chose to only use them for only a very short time because he was smart enough to know that he didn’t want to rely on a pain killer.
They kept him an extra day due to extremely low hemoglobin levels in his blood, ultimately leading to a blood transfusion.
His labs finally started looking decent so they discharged him and he’s now home where he belongs. His long road to recovery has begun.
He will now have to make the trip to Buffalo twice a week for the next year to monitor his new kidney. This will cost him precious time and money, being that each trip will take 8 hrs, due to the driving and the office visits. On top of that he now has a good amount of medications he will forever take.
If you could, please donate whatever it is you can to help offset the financial burden this young man is going to be under. He is the toughest young man I know and he would really appreciate any help he can get. Even if it’s only $10. It all adds up.
Thank you to you all and we really appreciate you. God Bless!
