Help Colin achieve some freedom ❤️

Hi, my name is Sherry and I’m hoping to spread the word about the struggles that my lifelong best friend faces as her brother’s full time caregiver.
Colin left Sherwood Home in PEI at the age of 5 and was lovingly adopted by the Bradley family. Throughout his life while still living in PEI, Colin enjoyed a healthy social life. He attended Birchwood School, Colonial Gray High School, day programs at K and K, bowling, sporting events, parades, church and attended medical appointments with ease. He enjoyed going to White Cross dances, social gatherings, going to different parks and family outings.
He moved to Newfoundland in 2016 with his family where he now has lost the opportunity to maintain or have any social life or connection to the outside world due to having zero options for transportation.
For the last two years, he has also been dealing with a malfunctioning wheelchair which only adds to his being forced to remain inside his home.
The funds raised would go towards helping his family get an accessible van to give Colin the opportunity to allow the enjoyment of his community and province.
In the 9 years that he and his family have resided in Conception Bay South, he has been to two malls and the hospital for appointments. He unfortunately had to miss his own father’s celebration of life in 2024, due to no affordable accessible transportation. To attend one appointment, it costs between $170 -$200 that comes out of Colin’s monthly income support cap of $312 for transportation.
The only available transportation service in CBS, charges $250 (flat fee) to transport Colin to church 2 kms away from home and return.
Teena requested in January to have this covered, and received notification on March 28th that her request has been denied due to the cost being too high.
If any of us worked in a facility and were to deny a patient outings or accessibility to medical appointments we would be in legal trouble and lose our job. Why is this allowed to happen to Colin?
Any donation big or small is a great help as well as sharing Colin’s story to help he and all others experiencing this heartbreaking barrier.
Thank you for your support. ❤️
In closing, Teena has reached out to every available government official and department, politicians, disability associations and has received NO HELP or guidance other than being DENIED due to cost. She will continue to advocate for her brother Colin and every other person in their province who are facing the same barriers and challenges.
