Help Cody Recover from Emergency Surgery
Donation protected
In mid-February, Gold Ribbon Rescue received a call about a stray Golden Retriever found in a remote, backwoods area of Louisiana. The dog had no collar, no microchip, was underweight and scared. As no one in the small nearby town recognized the dog, he had likely been dumped.
The finder contacted her sister in Austin as both women felt the dog would find a better home in Central Texas. The sister contacted GRR and of course we offered to help him.
GRR 25-019 Cody arrived in our care on March 5th and was fully vetted by our vet. The vet estimated Cody to be just a year old and confirmed he was malnourished. Cody had hookworms, roundworms and heartworms and needed to be neutered. However, the vet recommended waiting a few weeks to neuter as his liver enzymes were too high for surgery.
Medically, Cody is a work in progress: hookworms and roundworms have been treated and his liver enzymes improved so he was able to be neutered. The last step of his journey was to begin heartworm treatment in late May.
On May 13th, Cody’s foster mom noticed he was vomiting, had diarrhea and quite lethargic. He was not better by the 14th so she rushed Cody to Central Texas Veterinary Surgical Hospital (CTVSH). Vets x-rayed Cody and immediately saw a corn cob obstruction. We are not sure how or where Cody ingested a corn cob but he needed emergency surgery to survive..
Cody had surgery immediately and it went well. The cost estimate for the surgery was $5,153. Today after surgery, Cody’s vitals are good although he hasn’t yet eaten anything. We are hopeful that he can go home late Thursday. He’ll need a couple of weeks to recover from surgery before starting his heartworm treatment.
This GoFundMe is for $5,000 to cover Cody’s obstruction surgery and follow-up visits. Every donation helps and your donation will go directly towards care for his care. We appreciate your support. Thank you.
