I met Cody, an 18-year-old young man, at my local laundromat during a rainy day. It was my first time using the facility, and he was incredibly helpful, friendly, and respectful, guiding me through the updated Wi-Fi enabled machines. As we talked, Cody mentioned that he was usually at the laundromat, which made me wonder if there was more to his story. When the rain poured down and he said he had to walk nearly a mile to his job, I offered him a ride. During that drive, I learned that Cody had been kicked out of his parents' house at 18 because they had many other children to care for. He had tried living with a girlfriend, but that situation didn't work out, leaving him homeless.
Recently, Cody’s honesty truly shined. He noticed a washing machine at the laundromat was malfunctioning and losing quarters during the spin cycle. Instead of ignoring it, he informed the laundromat owner, who was so impressed by Cody’s integrity that he offered him a full-time job as the caretaker of the facility. When I called Cody this morning, he was so excited to share this good news. This new job is a better opportunity for him and will help with his need for a warm place to stay, though the laundromat still doesn’t have beds or proper accommodations. One concern is that, by leaving his previous job, Cody will lose access to the food he was receiving there, making his situation still quite challenging.
Cody is working hard and remains positive, but he needs a helping hand to find stability and hope for the future. I’m raising funds to help Cody secure safe housing and address his food needs as he transitions to this new chapter. He has not experienced much support from people or family, and your kindness could truly change his life. Please consider sharing this fundraiser, donating, and helping Cody get on his feet. Every bit of support brings him closer to a brighter, more secure future.
