Last Thursday, on August 21, ICE arrested a Scarborough community member, Christian, after they pulled him over on his drive to work. He was first taken to ICE detention in Scarborough and then transferred to New Hampshire, where he awaits hearing. He is a political asylum seeker from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and is currently a computer science student at Southern Maine Community College. He works for Sweetser, doing vital work supporting the mental health care of our community.
I met Christian during my senior thesis project studying the experiences of African immigrants in Maine. He is a kind, brilliant man who supports his family members and friends.
Christian currently does not have legal representation, adding risk for him during detention. We are asking for donations so that his family is able to hire an immigration attorney. Thank you so much for donating, sharing, and spreading awareness about this story!
