Hey, I’m Marlena, writing on behalf of my dear friend Chikamara Ajah – a gifted Nigerian artist and performer based in Hamburg. She’s currently in a serious health crisis and needs our help.
⚠️ What’s Happening
Over the past 9 months, Chika has been hospitalized 5 times — including 3 times at Vivantes Hospital. Her worsening symptoms were repeatedly misdiagnosed as “just eczema.” Or „topisches eczema“
In March 2025, after nearly a year of ineffective treatment, a biopsy finally revealed a possible cancer diagnosis:
T-cell lymphoma — a rare and aggressive cancer affecting the skin, blood, lymph nodes, and potentially, other organs.
She has now chosen to step away from a system that has more than failed her as a Black woman, affecting her self perception and instead pursue holistic, trauma-informed care with practitioners who understand Black skin and chronic illness.
Why Support Is Urgent
1. Possible cancer diagnosis – delays could be life-threatening
2. Years of misdiagnosis & neglect – treatments worsened her condition and motivation to heal.
3. No access to state support – no income, no healthcare safety net
4. Urgent need for holistic & culturally competent care with professionals who understand any skin type.
5. Basic needs at risk – housing, food, transport, therapy
