Help Chico State Nursing Students Travel to Africa for a Life-Changing Medical Mission

This December, a dedicated group of Chico State University nursing students will travel to Africa to take part in a medical mission at the Kristina Chesterman Memorial Hospital. This trip is far more than just a clinical experience, it’s a journey rooted in love, purpose, and the continuation of a dream that began with one extraordinary young woman.

Kristina Chesterman was a bright, compassionate, and selfless nursing student at Chico State. She dreamed of traveling to Africa to help those in need after graduation. Tragically, Kristina’s life was cut short in 2013 when she was hit and killed by a drunk driver while riding her bicycle home from a long night of studying. She was only 21 years old.

In honor of her dream and her remarkable spirit, the Kristina Chesterman Memorial Hospital was built in Azu Obam, Nigeria in Africa and opened its doors in 2019. Since then, Chico State nursing students have volunteered their time and hearts at Kristina’s hospital, bringing healing, education, and compassion to those with limited access to medical care.

These students give their all to be a part of this mission. While we hold two fundraisers each year to help offset the cost, the trip remains incredibly expensive, and a significant portion still comes directly out of the students’ own pockets. Between flights, travel expenses, medical supplies, and preparation, the cost can be overwhelming.

100% of the funds raised through this GoFundMe will go directly toward helping these students afford the trip. Your donation not only helps reduce the financial burden, but also allows these future nurses to step into their calling, continuing Kristina’s mission to make the world a better, more caring place.
