Chelsea is a hardworking single mother who has spent years building self-sufficiency, stability, and a safe home for her children. Unfortunately, the past few months have brought a series of devastating events that have left her and her youngest children in an extremely vulnerable position.
On April 11th, after nine years of stable tenancy, Chelsea and her two youngest children lost their housing through no fault of their own. Since then, they’ve been unhoused, caught in a system that offers too little, too late.
The stress of the situation has already had heartbreaking consequences: one of Chelsea’s children has become estranged due to the emotional toll. Then, at the end of April, Chelsea unexpectedly lost her job—partly due to the overwhelming impact the crisis had on her mental health.
As if things couldn’t get worse, sometime between the night of April 30th and the morning of May 1st, Chelsea’s only vehicle was stolen from the parking lot of the church where she and her 17-year-old son have been staying. Though she had full coverage, her car had a salvage title and the deductible is high, so any insurance payout will likely be minimal—if any. But this family needs a car to get back on track.
Chelsea is doing everything she can to protect and care for her son, who remains her top priority. She is trying to file for unemployment, but delays in the system are holding things up. In the meantime, she’s relying on a small amount of child support and newly reinstated SNAP benefits—neither of which is enough to cover basic needs like:
Phone and utility bills
Car insurance
Toiletries and household essentials not covered by SNAP
Transportation and future moving expenses
Funds raised will go directly toward helping Chelsea and her son stay afloat until unemployment benefits begin or she can find work. Any additional support will help replace their stolen vehicle and cover costs related to securing stable housing—something they are actively working toward through a housing case management program.
This is a family in crisis, trying to hold on through an avalanche of loss. Your donation, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference. Thank you for taking the time to read, share, and support.
