Mostly words from our daughter, Ava: 08/26 Baby Charli was rushed in an ambulance to Kalamazoo hospital, she stopped breathing at home in the arms of her father. 911 was called while Thorn had to do cpr on our baby girl and I THANK God he was there with her, he saved her life. Not only did he have to do cpr on our baby girl but we had a code blue once transported to Kalamazoo hospital, this was by far the most traumatic and heartbreaking experience we have ever witnessed in our lives. Sitting outside of those doors watching doctors surrounding her going up and down on her chest was such a surreal feeling, I felt as if my soul had left my body. You never think these things will happen to you until they do. The whole time being in Kalamazoo they couldn’t really find answers as to what was wrong with our baby girl, we felt pretty left in the dark, they just knew she was very sick, and it was deadly. That same night around 5/6 a.m. Charli was airlifted to the U of M, they told us we were unable to fly with her, and while that was so hard to leave her this was very much necessary for her health and safety. My mom drove Thorn and I immediately, the car ride felt like forever. Since being here they were able to find out that she has E. Coli, sepsis, and a rhinovirus (common cold) This has damaged most of her organs, we pray this can be repaired but there is still a chance these organs will not heal on their own. The next best step for Charli was getting a procedure done called ECMO (life support) basically to help give her heart and lungs a break and to try and build back up and heal. Dialysis has started today to help repair her kidneys. This won’t fix these organs but it gives them a break, and gives us more time to fight off her infection and illness. During the procedure they had to remove her breathing tube/ventilator , in doing so cpr had to be done again twice, a total of 10 minutes this time, and this being the longest duration of cpr being done on her. Of course there are risks for this procedure as there are risks to most things in life, but this is what is best for Charli and she’s doing very well with it right now, thank God. We pray we’re finally heading in the right direction, there is a possibility of a decline, but this is the best possible place for her to be, and I know God is right by her side, I know he has been from the very beginning, she is fighting she has been, she is so strong. I know that God will bring our baby home to us, and to our arms where she needs to be. No matter how long it takes. I thank God that this situation happened in the way that it did, Thorn truly saved this girls life, the ambulance came faster than I have ever heard of. Baby Charli was in the ambulance and she was as white as paper. She is doing a lot better currently, we have so many people praying for Charli. We will continue to pray over our baby girl, and to anyone who reads this I ask you pray for her and help God guide our baby to being healthy again, and guide her back home to us. Baby Charli is currently in the PICU at U of M and the team of doctors are doing everything they can to save and fix her. Overall this infection in her blood has compromised her organs which the doctors are very optimistic they can return to normal function with time. This is an hour by hour, day by day situation and we will keep faith Charli will fully recover
Right now Ava and Thorn are bedside with Charli. They are on a waiting list for the Ronald McDonald house by the hospital to be able to have a comfortable bed and a shower when need. They refuse to leave her. Thorn has taken time off work to be with his family. Although they do not have many bills they do pay for their own food, car insurance, phone bills as well as everyday products. Any and all donations are welcome but even more than that a solid prayer for healing and wellness of this child.
