Help Cate's Grandkids Break the Cycle

Hi - my name is Tanya and I'm raising funds for my best friend Cate Gibson and her amazing, resilient grandchildren Ash, Izzy and Eevie. Short story is they need funding to create some space and so Ash has a place to study - the only option is a caravan for the backyard.

 

Cate has been raising her grandkids single-handedly since Ash was 1 year old (he's now 20). The family have been impacted hard by the scourge of drug and alcohol addiction. Cate has lost 2 of her own children to drugs - her daughter who passed away in 2017, was Ash, Izzy and Eevie's mother. Ash has a different father to Izzy and Eevie, but neither father is on the scene or helping out in any way. Cate has done an amazing job supporting her grandkids and working hard to give them a stable and supportive home.

 

They all live in a small, 3-bedroom unit which gets smaller as the kids get older. Cate has been sleeping on the lounge so the girls and Ash can all sleep in a bed, as the bedrooms are too small to share. She has tried over the past few years to get funding for a 'granny flat' through a charity organisation and this was approved, however the building co-op of the units she is living in rejected it. They are allowed to put a caravan in the backyard but can't get funding for it.  

 

Ash finished year 12 last year and took a gap year. He spent most of the past year in Adelaide working and developed an interest in making music. He is going to enrol to study Sound Engineering next year, but desperately needs some of his own space. There's no free space in the unit, especially with his 10 and 11 year old sisters, and now that we are coming out of lockdown it will be hard to find a quiet place with friends and visitors coming over.

 

He feels it is better for him to remain at home with his grandma and the girls to be able to give Cate some support and respite.

 

Any donations would be gratefully appreciated so they can create some space and a better living environment for them all. The funds will be withdrawn in Cate's name so she use the funds to purchase and install a caravan in her backyard as an 'extra room' and space for Ashley and Cate will be able to sleep in her own bed again. Help them break the cycle!
