First of all, thanks to all who prayed and sent well wishes and comforting words! While the news is not good, we sense God's presence on a daily basis. I flew to Florida on May 23, his birthday, after taking an indefinite, emergency unpaid leave of absence from my job.
On May 27, Jeff was taken by ambulance to the local hospital here in Stuart with very low blood pressure. After consultation with his surgical team in Miami, the decision was made to admit him here for observation. During the course of this hospitalization, now at day 13, it was discovered that Jeff's Stage 4 cancer of the head and neck has spread. It is very aggressive, very invasive, and inoperable. It has taken his voice and his ability to eat and swallow, but not his upbeat, optimistic spirit. He is being discharged today with a home nurse, palliative care, and a sister dedicated to caring for him until the end. My years of experience in the medical and caregiving fields, including hospice, provide me with a unique set of skills to care for Jeff.
I am his voice. I am his medical liaison, interpreter and advocate. I am providing the spiritual, mental, emotional and physical help he needs. As he is able, we work together to get his final affairs in order.
I am seeking financial help so that I can I can remain with my brother in Florida and still be able to pay my ongoing monthly bills in Michigan. If you are not able to give, please consider sharing this GoFundMe appeal with your friends and family. And as always, your prayers are coveted, appreciated, and EFFECTIVE!
God bless each and every one of you for your care and concern! ❤️
