Community Rebuilding Effort: Hurricane Melissa Relief for Jamaica!
Hurricane Melissa has left devastating damage across Jamaica, especially in the parish of St. Elizabeth, where families are now struggling to recover. Homes have lost roofs, crops have been destroyed, and many residents are without clean water, food, or essential supplies.
I am Carla Brown-Cajuste, originally from Jamaica and now living in the U.S. My mother and her neighbors are among those affected; their homes were flooded, and their livelihoods have been completely disrupted. In this farming community, agriculture is the primary source of income and food, and the hurricane destroyed fields of crops, leaving families without work, harvests, or a means to provide for themselves.
This GoFundMe initiative is focused on helping this community rebuild through direct, transparent aid.
Funds will be used for:
Roofing materials (zinc, lumber, nails, and tarpaulins)
Basic needs (food, water, clothing, and bedding)
Repairs for windows, doors, and hurricane shutters
Support for elderly residents and families with children
Shipping costs for barrels and containers of donated goods
I am coordinating directly with local leaders and community volunteers to ensure resources reach the most affected households. Updates, photos, and progress reports will be shared regularly for full transparency.
This effort is not just about rebuilding homes; it’s about restoring hope, dignity, and stability to the people who shaped my roots.
Every contribution, regardless of its size, makes a difference. GoFundMe may display a higher starting amount, but please note that you can adjust it; even $5 or $10 helps tremendously. Your generosity, in any amount, will directly support families in Jamaica as they rebuild their homes and lives after Hurricane Melissa. Please join me in helping Jamaica rise again.
