Help Camp Lake Airport Restore its Pilot Lounge

Note: Be sure to check out all of our many updates below
My name is Elliott Eiden. I am the owner and manager of Camp Lake Airport in the Village of Salem Lakes in southeast Wisconsin. I am 26 years old and a graduate of the Lewis University College of Aviation, Science and Technology. Camp Lake Airport has a 2200 foot turf runway and several hangers. When I purchased the airport in August, 2020, it was a mess, ready to join the growing list of closed public use airports, most notably Westosha Airport 2 miles to the SW. My hope was that with the help of family and friends, I could restore and keep the airport open to the public. The majority of airports like mine are restricted to private use or closed. I have made great progress in safety and aesthetic enhancements. Please refer to the following link which contains a series of photographs depicting the pilot lounge in its current condition, and groups of photographs depicting both the condition of the airport at the time of purchase, and upgrades I have already made. It is a costly labor of love without expectation of profit. www.camplakeairport.com
I am turning to improvements that encourage aviation activities and public use. The centerpiece of this effort is the pilot lounge. Last Fall (2021), I gutted the lounge and identified that I need to repair water damage, roof leaks and some of the structural components that are failing; replace the furnace; replace windows; install a full bathroom; replace electrical wiring, damaged insulation, and ceiling, wall and floor coverings; and eliminate mold. I also will be adding a coffee bar, internet, and a few furnishings to provide a comfortable setting for socializing and group activities. I will provide all of the labor not requiring licensed contractors, without compensation. I would like to begin work in late Spring, 2022.
Some of the activities for which the pilot lounge will be used, in addition to being a recreational amenity for the flying public, include exposure of younger people and high school aviation clubs to small recreational airport operations, Flying Hamburger Socials for the local and aviation communities; (see the last several paragraphs of https://www.wisconsinacademy.org/magazine/summer-2021/wisconsin-table/flying-hamburger-social and http://www.moonlightflight.com/flysocial/socials/WI/socials.html ; year round fly ins (food and activities), camping alongside parked airplanes, and participation in the Wisconsin Passport Program encouraging visitors to all Wisconsin airports. Your generosity is greatly appreciated and will keep this unique recreational amenity thriving.
