Hello! I've been so blessed to be the first in the fifth generation of driving Elizabeth "Tutu" Leonard's 1971 Super Beetle.
I know so many family members have memories of this car. It is still in really good shape from decades of family members taking care of it. I've been driving it to school every day. My family and I also drove it in the VW "Bugtoberfest" a couple of weeks ago with all of the other classic Beetles, Buses, and Ghias in Tucson!
This is a fundraiser to help me restore and repair it for the generations to come. Any amount is appreciated and these are some of the goals we'll be working towards. I already recently replaced the accelerator cable and parts of the brake system when they gave out. I have also had fun learning to bleed brakes and replace tires.
There are some of the bigger ticket items that I'm hoping to work towards:
- Replacing driver's side rear fender where metal is broken and rusting (working to do before new paint so it can be painted too) - $260 parts and $330 welding labor
- New paint job to protect the body - $3000 plus $2500 disassembly/reassembly
- Replace degraded interior panels - $170 parts (plan to install myself)
Eventual goals:
- Canvas boot to protect the top fabric and hardware when the top is down - $580
- Fix detached chrome window trim - Cost TBD
- New rims - $100 each ($400)
I am also working on making a book of memories of the Bug to share with everyone! There have been so many stories and memories made in this car. I would love to collect them. I will be sharing out a Google Form for all family members to fill out!
Thank you so much for anything you're able to give!
Calvin, Tutu's oldest great-great-grandchild
