We are setting up this fundraiser for our parents, Butch and Fredia Shimchick.
On the evening of February 1, 2022, our parents came home to find our brother in a psychotic state from drug use. He assaulted both of them physically. Fortunately, they were able to get out and get help. When law enforcement arrived on the scene, he barricaded himself in their home and proceeded to set multiple fires in the upstairs of their home in an attempt to keep law enforcement out.
In addition to setting multiple fires, he caused extensive damage to their home's second floor, including damage to ceilings, walls, light fixtures, electric smoke detectors, and flooring on the second floor of their home. He also destroyed several beds, bedding, nightstands, and home decor items.
My parents have pressed charges against my brother, and they've also obtained an emergency order of protection.
My parents are always the first to help others and volunteer their time and resources. At almost 75, they live on a fixed retirement income and don't have the means to make all the repairs needed and replace the damaged things.
I believe getting their home in order will go a long way toward helping them recover emotionally and psychologically from the events of that night.
With family and friends doing the work, it will be roughly $2000 to complete the home repairs, including repairing/replacing drywall, painting, repairing wiring, replacing light fixtures, replacing smoke detectors, replacing fire extinguishers, replacing carpeting, etc.
An additional $2000 is needed to replace destroyed items, including mattresses, box springs, bedding, nightstands, home decor, etc.
They would certainly appreciate it if you could help with $5 or $50.
