Kadima at Irwin, a caring elder care facility in Irwin, PA asked the community for help building or donating garden boxes and were met with a flood of options including a prospective Eagle Scout, Vinnie Horensky who is working to provide what was asked: new raised garden beds.
The residents—many of whom use wheelchairs or have limited mobility—cherish time outdoors and the joy of gardening. The Grove at Irwin wants to make this experience accessible to everyone in our community. Gardening brings happiness, fresh food, and a sense of accomplishment to our residents. However, our current garden beds are in poor shape and not accessible for those in wheelchairs. Kadima at Irwin is supported by Eagle Scout candidate Vinnie Horensky from Troop 480 to build and install three large, wheelchair-accessible planter boxes right here.
Vinnie is building three sturdy, long-lasting wooden planter boxes (two for vegetables, one for flowers), designing the beds to be perfect for wheelchair access. He is organizing volunteers to build, deliver, and install the beds and providing soil, seeds, and plants so residents can care for their gardens
All donations will go directly to Kadima Health to cover treated lumber, and hardware, landscape fabric and soil, seeds, plants, and waterproofing supplies,
Based on Vinnie's project plan and materials list, the total cost is approximately $1,400. Any and all funds raised beyond what is needed will stay with Kadima Health for future gardening projects or facility improvements.
Your support will help make this project possible! Every donation, big or small, will help us purchase materials and create a lasting impact for the residents. If you can’t donate, please share this campaign with others who may want to help.
Eagle Scout projects are about leadership, service, and making a difference in the community. Vinnie will lead a team of Scouts, family, and friends to complete this project, and he will be responsible for planning, fundraising, and execution. All fundraising follows Scouting America (BSA) guidelines, and all funds go directly to the beneficiary.
Thank you for supporting my Eagle Scout project and helping the residents of Kadima Health enjoy gardening and the outdoors!
