Hi, my name is Jasat. I lived in Kigali, Rwanda for ten years growing up. I recently found out that the Kigali Asian community is working alongside the local residents in the construction of an Islamic Centre.
Whilst Rwanda has made significant strides forward after the 1994 genocide, it is still an impoverished country. 55% of people live on less than $1.90/day. Half of the population still lives in poverty, and many children still drop out early from school due to the poor quality of education.
The completion of this Islamic Centre will offer an opportunity for an Islamic education to be shared with the local community. It will be a hub where local Muslims can meet, learn about local services, and as necessary and applicable receive emergency support. Over 318,000 people live in the district where the Islamic Centre is being constructed: Kicukiro.
The community are appealing for donations as the total project will cost $80,000, of which they have currently raised only $30,000. Roofs, Windows and Doors need to be paid for as soon as possible. Please donate whatever you are able. JazakAllah, Thank you.
