My name is Jamie Jackson, and I founded the American Black News Network because I believe Black America deserves journalism that consistently asks a simple question: What does this mean for us?

The American Black News Network is a nonprofit public media organization providing original journalism, interviews and analysis focused on the issues shaping Black America.

At a time when newsrooms are shrinking and trusted journalism is becoming harder to sustain, we are building something designed to serve communities that have too often been overlooked, misunderstood or treated as an afterthought.

Our goal is to create independent, credible journalism that covers the stories affecting people's everyday lives — from jobs, the economy and education to politics, health, business, culture and opportunity.

We are also building a distribution network that will make our journalism available to radio stations, digital publishers and other media organizations, helping important reporting reach audiences far beyond our own website.

And our vision extends beyond daily news. The American Black News Network is expanding into long-form interviews, documentary storytelling and filmmaking that preserves important stories and gives them the depth they deserve.

I have spent more than two decades working in journalism — from local newsrooms across the country to covering the White House and national politics. Now I want to use that experience to build an institution that can serve Black America for generations.
