Make Your Mark — and Make a Difference!
Be part of something vibrant, joyful, and meaningful. When you paint a piece of our community art installation, you're not just adding color — you're helping us reach our $15,000 goal to (first) build an accessibility ramp and (2nd) create a community-painted mural that celebrates inclusion, the arts and the spirit of Staunton.
Why This Matters — and What Art Hive Is All About
Art Hive is a creative reuse studio and community hub that’s home to Cat Nap Roasting Co., a rotating art gallery, a craft thrift store, drop-in crafting spaces, and about two dozen local solopreneurs — artists, makers, and creative small business owners working side by side. It’s a space where creativity and community come together, open to all - but right now, not everyone is able to just enter the building.
PHASE 1: Enhancing Accessibility – Because Everyone Belongs
We're building more than a ramp — we're building a welcome mat for everyone. Your support helps make Art Hive truly accessible, so all can enjoy the full experience: grabbing coffee from Cat Nap Roasting Co., browsing handmade treasures, diving into craft projects, exploring local art, and gathering with neighbors in a space that’s buzzing with creativity and connection.
This upgrade helps us open our doors wider — and more equitably — to all. This is our first priority and will be purchased as soon as we get to $3,500.
PHASE 2: The Community Mural
This project brings together neighbors, artists, students, and visitors to transform a public space into a shared story of expression and belonging.
What this will do
Staunton's West End, designated as an Economic Opportunity Zone, is primarily composed of service-based businesses (80%) with limited retail (8%). The average age is 41, with a growing population of senior citizens. The area would greatly benefit from increased foot traffic to support existing businesses and attract new grocery stores, retail shops, and entertainment venues. Our mural and accessibility project directly addresses these needs by:
- Attracting Visitors – The mural will serve as a visual landmark, drawing people to the West End and stimulating economic activity.
- Beautifying the Area – Public art fosters pride and revitalization, making the West End a more inviting place to shop, dine, and gather.
- Strengthening Community Identity – By involving residents and local artists, the project creates a shared sense of ownership and investment in the neighborhood’s growth.
Your donation supports more than just paint and concrete — it brings beauty, access, and connection and will help transform the West End into a more colorful, inclusive, and economically thriving community.
