Help Build Shelters for Farmers in Siargao!

Donation protected
Hi friends and family,

I am fundraising to participate in a design-build project in Siargao, Philippines, constructing essential farming shelters for two communities displaced by the devastating 2021 Typhoon Odette. The two communities, now relocated inland due to rising sea levels and increasingly intense and frequent natural disasters, are transitioning from fishing to sustainable farming. These shelters will provide vital shade, tool storage, and multifunctional spaces for gatherings and events, supporting their new livelihoods. These structures will be built using locally sourced building materials and utilize typhoon-resistant design techniques. The goal of the project is to construct the infrastructure needed for the local farmers to grow as well as develop local community members’ skills and knowledge in the field of architecture and construction.

As an aspiring architect passionate about resilient design and empowering communities, this project with CAUKIN Studio and Lokal Lab is a perfect fit. CAUKIN Studio, a renowned UK-based design-build organization, leads international teams on socially and ecologically impactful projects worldwide. This is their first project in the Philippines! They’re partnering with Lokal Lab, an NGO promoting sustainable education and agriculture through their Tropical Academy - an eco-campus that offers training in regenerative agriculture, sustainable tourism, and disaster-resilient construction. They are also so kind as to be our home base during the build and will provide participants with housing, basic amenities, and the best - local food!

This incredible opportunity will allow me to contribute directly to the rebuilding of these communities. Your generous donation will cover my program fees ($1640), round-trip flight to Siargao ($1500), and required travel insurance ($150). My participation in the project will last from July 11 - August 1st 2025.

The Philippines holds a special place in my heart, not only because I am Filipino, but also because the generosity and kindness of its people inspire me, and I’m deeply committed to giving back. Please join me in making a positive impact on these communities as they rebuild their lives. Every contribution, big or small, will make a difference. Thank you for your support!
