Help Us Build Toilets for Mukuba Primary School in Zambia!
Dear friends, family, and compassionate supporters,
We are excited to announce our upcoming project at Mukuba Primary School in Kitwe, Zambia, in partnership with Rural Empowerment Fora (REF). Our work building homes ended with Covid in 2020, and we have now been invited by REF to build toilets for children in this underserved community. This will be our 11th trip to Zambia and our last one, where we will work alongside local community members to build much-needed sanitation facilities for children. Our mission is to uplift vulnerable families and improve their quality of life through sustainable interventions.
About Mukuba Primary School
Mukuba Primary School is home to approximately 2,000 students, yet it has only two pit toilets—one designated for teachers. This dire lack of sanitation facilities has been identified by REF as a significant challenge that affects the health and well-being of these children. Our team of 4-6 dedicated volunteers will be in the community from September 6-18, working directly under the guidance of local builders and community members to construct toilets that will provide safe and healthy sanitation for these deserving children.
About Rural Empowerment Forum (REF)
REF is a distinguished Civil Society Organisation (CSO) fervently committed to fostering sustainable community development across rural and peri-urban landscapes. They are dedicated to significantly improving the quality of life for all populations in these areas through comprehensive interventions in Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), education, healthcare, sustainable livelihoods, and environmental stewardship, with a pronounced focus on transcending existing gender disparities.
About Our Team
Several of us are returning to Zambia time and again, driven by our commitment to service. Many of our team members are long-time active volunteers in our own communities, supporting various charitable organizations—from homeless shelters and crisis centers to outreach yoga classes, family shelters, food banks, and community events. Our individual fundraising efforts help cover the costs of our projects in Zambia, allowing us to focus on making a difference. These efforts include teaching yoga, sewing projects, and furniture refinishing. Collectively, we have helped build 24 houses that have provided shelter for approximately 96 people.
Why We're Fundraising
While we understand the importance of supporting local initiatives, we believe that our work in Zambia complements our efforts at home. Money raised will go directly towards funding this entire project. Anything raised over the project costs will go towards defraying some of the costs for the team.
Any surplus funds will be directed to REF for their continuing work to improve the quality of life for the people in the communities they serve."
Join Us in Making a Difference
Our fundraising goal is $10,000. Your support can help transform the lives of these children and their families. Together, we can create a healthier and more sustainable future for Mukuba Primary School. Thank you for considering supporting our mission to provide safe sanitation facilities for those in need.
With gratitude, Margaret, Louisa and Kathryn
