Help support Ellis who only has half a heart

Hello everyone.

I know this is a long winded post but please bear with me. Im trying to help my best friend and her family as there going through this difficult time. 

Little Ellis has been in and out of hospital for most of his life and had his first open heart surgery at just 8 weeks old and his most recent open heart on 12/1/21. 

Ellis is an amazing and beautiful 6 year old boy, who was diagnosed with Complex Congenital Cardiac defects prior to his birth. Ultimately, this means that Ellis has faced many challenges in his short life and he and his family are currently facing another tough hurdle and they need your help.

Ellis’ full diagnosis is;

Hypoplastic right ventricle (half a heart)
Double inlet left ventricle
Double outlet right ventricle
Bilateral superior vena cava with patent innominate vein
VSD (ventricular septal defect)
Small mitral valve
Bilateral vocal chord paralysis
Unilateral diaphragmatic paralysis

Due to his complex condition Ellis has undergone numerous palliative care operations in the hope to prolong his life and increase his quality of life. Unfortunately, there is no cure currently for Ellis’ condition which means he must endure open heart surgeries in a bid to help him.

His most recent operation has resulted in his vocal cords and the left side of his diaphragm becoming paralysed, which has led to him requiring oxygen to help him to breath.

Here is where we need your help…

Ellis lives with his super, strong parents and 2 supportive brothers. They live in a 3-bedroom house but are in desperate need of a single-storey extension to help with Ellis’ needs. Due to Ellis having low oxygen he struggles to do the smallest of tasks such as talking, walking, and climbing stairs, things that most of us take for granted. The extension would provide a downstairs bedroom and bathroom for him, helping him to preserve his energy and focus on his recovery. Occupational therapy has assessed his needs and agree that this is the best option for him, as he is too young for a stair lift to be fitted.

Ellis is currently recovering in hospital from his most recent open-heart palliative surgery but was rushed back for emergency surgery due of fluid surrounding his heart causing a buildup of pressure. Ellis has drains in his chest to remove the excess liquid and relieve the pressure his heart is under. This is another obstacle in the way of Ellis’ recovery so he needs your help now more than ever, as he deserves the best quality of life that we can give him. Life has thrown many obstacles at Ellis and his family and he has always faced the difficulties with a smile. He is and always will be a fighter. Please help to keep the smile on his face.
