My name is Mike White, founder of Browse Magazine and Browse Studios CIC.

After 12 years of documenting Hull’s music, arts, culture, independents and creative community, Browse is taking its biggest step yet.

We now have the keys to a new city centre space at 62 to 63 Prospect Street, Hull, inside the Prospect Centre, in a former retail unit that has been empty for around three years.

Browse Studios CIC is the next chapter: turning Browse from a magazine and digital platform into a physical creative and community space for Hull.

The aim is to create a place for music, media, events, exhibitions, workshops, independent businesses, young creatives, community-led ideas and grassroots culture.

We have the space.

We have the launch.

We have funding support moving in principle.

But Phase 1 still needs public backing.

At this early stage, larger funding routes need more evidence before they can fully unlock. They need to see the space active, people using it, community backing, local businesses involved and real demand from artists, creatives, independents and residents.

We may also need to match future funding opportunities as they become live. Having funds in place gives us a stronger chance of unlocking bigger support when it becomes available.

That is why this fundraiser matters.

The money raised will help with the immediate and ongoing costs of opening and activating the space, including:

Renovation and making good

Setup costs

Basic equipment

Launch operations

Signage and materials

Community programming

Safety, staffing and contingency

This is not about asking people to rescue a project.

It is about inviting people to help build one.

Every donation helps us turn a long-empty city centre unit into something Hull can actually use, while also giving us the evidence and momentum needed for the next stage of funding and investment.
