Help Build a Safe Tot Lot in Peri Park

Why do we need a tot lot at Peri Park?

Young kids like to put sand and tan bark in their mouthes as they explore about so a surface like rubber gym tile or astroturf is ideal. Currently parents with two kids have to hold the toddler or enter the larger kid play structures with the toddler which makes it harder to supervise the older kid or spend more time at the park.

My name is Rafael I am a parent in Fairfax, CA to a 1 year old and a 3 year old gathering support for a tot lot (under age 3) for Peri Park.

My ask: Please share this cause amongst your networks and let council members know you support this initiative.

My project is supported by the Parks and Recreation Department of the Town of Fairfax.

The community has requested features such as :

1) Surface that is not sand or tan bark

2) Visibility into the rest of the park

3) Shade

4) Caregiver seating

Feb 14th update (final):

The project was approved by the Town Council in their 1/9 meeting which was recorded. The project was subsequently mentioned in town newsletters, the Marin IJ and a page has been setup to donate via paypal to the Town's nonprofit directly. A Benevity cause has also been setup to encourage those with corporate matches from Bay Area employers like Charles Schwab, Cloudera, Atlassian, Sodexho, Microsoft, and more. This new paypal account will be the official account for fundraising going forward.

December 9th update:

The project will be formally presented to the Town Council early next year. I will update here as new funding pathways become clear. Please support this project by sharing information about this cause with your network.

Where will it be located?

Either the SW corner near the ramp and benches, alongside the gravel path or over the existing rubber surface near the entrance. About 12 x 15 in size.

Can I deduct my contribution made through this gofundme?

No. Contributions have to be made directly to a non-profit. Once formally approved by Town Council inquire with Town Of Fairfax Recreation department about the entity to make the check out to so you can deduct your contribution for this project.

What happens if there isn't enough funds to cover the project?

I will scope down the project to fit the funds raised. For example, not including any play structures. There is a significant cost savings if no new structures are purchased and installed as installation is about 50% of play structure cost and special safety surface is required for fall zones.

What other funding sources are you pursuing?

I hope to have corporate match programs eligible to contribute by EOY to the Town's non-profit via Benevity, a web platform for employee giving. Kaboom and Marin County Housing and Grants office have confirmed the project is not eligible for their current funding programs.

Other ideas include approaching Chamber of Commerce members for naming rights and events.
