Help Build a Safe Home for Pai and Her Children

Hi All. We are asking for financial support in the urgent need to build a home for Pai and her 8 children. We are a group of friends of this family who are organizing this fundraiser. We have been blessed to get to know the wonderful Noke Koi community through their visits to Costa Rica, and became aware of this recently and hope we can support them. Here is more information:

Deep in the Amazon, along the Gregório River in Acre, Brazil, lies the Noke Koi village of Timbaúba, a place rooted in tradition, community, and deep care for one another and the forest.

At the center of this village is Pai Kamãnawa, the sister of Chief Paka Kamãnawa and the matriarch who quietly holds everything together.

While her brother travels to share and protect their culture, Pai stays behind, caring not only for her own eight children, but also raising his three children as her own. She is currently pregnant, continuing to give life while sustaining everyone around her.

Pai’s role is immense. She cooks every meal for the community. She cleans. She harvests food from the land. She prepares and butchers animals. She organizes and guides the other women. From sunrise to nightfall, she is in constant service, ensuring that everyone is nourished, supported, and cared for.

Beyond all of this, Pai is also a gifted artist. She creates intricate, handmade beaded jewelry, each piece crafted with care, tradition, and beauty. Through her art, she contributes to supporting her family, weaving culture and livelihood together in every creation.

Until now, Pai lived in a traditional wooden home built on stilts. But over time, the structure has deteriorated. The house is full of mold, the wood is rotting, and the place is no longer safe or liveable - it is at risk of collapsing at any moment.

Recently, Pai was able to stay in an empty home belonging to a member of the community who had been away. But now, he is finally returning home after many months, and Pai must leave.

By April 8, Pai and her children will have nowhere to go.

This is why we are coming together to ask for your support.

We are raising $9,500 to build Pai a new, safe, traditional home in Timbaúba, a place where she and her children can rest, sleep, and continue the vital role she plays in her community.

Our intentions here go beyond building a house:

This is a fundraiser that also seeks to center a woman who supports everyone else, to honor the invisible labor that sustains an entire village, and to ensure safety, dignity, and stability for a mother, a leader, and a guardian of her people and the forest.

Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us closer to giving Pai and her children a safe and healthy home.

Thank you for your generosity and care and and answering the call of supporting this family! With so much gratitude -
