Hi, my name is Cierra Giesbrecht, and I’m the founder of The Curvy Club, a size-inclusive community that brings plus-size folks together for connection, events, and belonging here in our city.
Over the years, I’ve seen firsthand how powerful it can be when people have spaces that truly see them — spaces where they can show up as they are, without discomfort, shame, or limitation. Through The Curvy Club, we’ve created those moments in pop-ups, events, and gatherings, and the response has been overwhelming in the best way.
This fundraiser is the next step in building on that foundation.
I’m working toward opening a plus-size thrift and community space — a place designed specifically to offer better in-person options for plus-size shoppers, alongside room for community events, workshops, access to resources, and connection.
This would be more than a store. It would be:
- a place where people can try clothes on comfortably
- a space that prioritizes dignity, accessibility, and representation
- a physical home for community programming connected to The Curvy Club
Rather than rushing or taking on unsustainable debt, I’m choosing to approach this thoughtfully and responsibly — with community support at the center.
For a long time, plus-size people have been asked to accept less when it comes to shopping in person: fewer options, limited sizes, uncomfortable fitting rooms, and environments that weren’t built with them in mind.
I know how discouraging that can feel — and how much confidence and joy can come from finally being in a space where you’re considered from the start.
This project matters to me because I believe plus-size folks deserve access to clothing, community, and experiences that don’t ask them to shrink themselves — physically or emotionally. And it matters to our city because inclusive, community-rooted spaces don’t just fill a gap; they build connection, confidence, and belonging.
Funds raised through this campaign will be used intentionally and transparently to support the next phase of this project, including:
- securing an appropriate retail/community space
- initial inventory for a size-inclusive thrift model
- basic build-out, fixtures, and accessibility needs
- supporting early community programming and events
I want to be very open that this project is being built carefully, not rushed. Timelines may evolve as I make decisions that prioritize sustainability and long-term success.
If a storefront is not secured immediately, funds will still be used in alignment with this mission — including pop-ups, events, inventory sourcing, and continued steps toward opening when it’s responsible to do so.
This fundraiser is an invitation to be part of something that’s being built with care, integrity, and community at its core.
Whether you’re able to donate, share this page, or simply offer encouragement — thank you. Your support means more than you know, and it helps ensure this vision can move forward in a way that protects both the project and the people it’s meant to serve.
With gratitude,
Cierra Jade
FAQ
Is this store already open?
Not yet. This campaign is supporting the next phase of bringing a plus-size thrift and community space to life. I’m intentionally building this carefully and sustainably, rather than rushing into something that isn’t financially responsible.
Is a space already secured?
I’m actively exploring and revisiting potential spaces, but no lease has been signed yet. Funds from this campaign will help secure the right space when it makes sense to do so.
What exactly will my donation be used for?
Funds raised will go toward:
- securing a retail/community space
- initial inventory for a size-inclusive thrift model
- basic fixtures, décor, and accessibility needs
- early community programming, pop-ups, and events connected to The Curvy Club
All funds will be used in alignment with the mission of creating inclusive, community-rooted in-person options for plus-size folks.
What happens if the full fundraising goal isn’t reached?
This campaign is set up with flexible funding, meaning any amount raised will still move this project forward. Partial funding may support pop-ups, community events, inventory sourcing, or continued progress toward opening a storefront when it’s responsible to do so.
What if a storefront doesn’t open right away?
Timelines may evolve, and that’s intentional. If a storefront isn’t secured immediately, funds will still be used to support community programming, pop-ups, and future steps toward opening when conditions are right. Transparency and sustainability are priorities.
Why crowdfunding instead of a traditional business loan?
Crowdfunding allows this project to be built with community support and without unsustainable debt. It also ensures the space is shaped by and accountable to the people it’s meant to serve.
Is this connected to The Curvy Club?
Yes. This project is a natural extension of the values and community built through The Curvy Club. The goal is to create a physical space that reflects the same inclusivity, connection, and care.
Will there be opportunities to get involved beyond donating?
Absolutely. Support can look like:
- sharing the fundraiser
- attending events or pop-ups
- collaborating as a vendor, facilitator, or community partner
More opportunities will be shared as the project evolves.
How will updates be shared?
Updates will be posted directly on this GoFundMe page and shared through The Curvy Club channels as milestones are reached.
Is my donation refundable?
Donations are not automatically refundable, as funds are used to support the project’s mission. However, transparency about how funds are used is a priority, and updates will always be shared openly.
