Help Build a Pan-African Library in Niger

Donation protected
We are opening up a Thomas Sankara Centre in Niger! The Thomas Sankara Centre (@burkinabooks) is collaborating with The Union of Nigerien Scholars (USN) to create a revolutionary Pan-African library and political education centre based in Niamey, Niger! The USN is a revolutionary Pan-African student trade union with thousands of student members. The trade union is well established, having been formed in July 1960, one month before The Republic of Niger’s flag independence.

The Thomas Sankara Centre is a revolutionary Pan-African library and political education centre based in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. It hosts a weekly work study circle, a young pioneer program for children, film screenings with a strong geopolitical focus, and various events and activities throughout the year.

This project will be run by the Thomas Sankara Centre and based at the USN headquarters with their support. The library will carry various works written by foremost Pan-Africanists and revolutionaries such as Thomas Sankara, Kwame Nkrumah, Ahmed Sékou Touré, Amilcar Cabral, Winnie Mandela, Assata Shakur, Frantz Fanon and many others. With these materials, the Thomas Sankara Centre will work with USN students to develop a regular enduring political education process in Niger.

Niger, like Burkina Faso, is at the forefront of the modern Pan-African revolution. After a coup in July of 2023, Niger has joined its neighbours Burkina Faso and Mali to create the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), an anti-imperialist coalition at the forefront of building a better life for African people. Niger is also the first African country in history to expel US Africa Command (AFRICOM) military forces, forging a new path of sovereignty and self-determination. All across the country the masses of Niger are desperately hungry for revolutionary Pan-African knowledge, but very very few have access to the kinds of books they are seeking.

With your support we will establish this library, fill it with books, and build a relationship across rapidly dissolving colonial borders. Help us bring Burkina Faso and Niger together in the struggle for African unity and self-determination!
