Empower Briana’s Family: Building Bright Futures
Donation protected
In July 2023, 19-year-old Briana and her 20-month-old son, Jhacari, didn’t know where they were going to sleep at night. After Briana aged out of foster care, she and Jhacari spent the next 14 months in 10 different states, all while experiencing homelessness, abusive relationships, living in domestic violence shelters, and many other unsafe circumstances. Briana was out of options.
I’m Laura, and my husband Adam and I heard about their circumstances and offered to help. We live in Royal Oak, MI, with our two children, Russell and Jewell. We adopted Russell in 2019 and Jewell in 2021, and we have been planning to reopen our foster license and adopt more children.
We are thrilled to say we have welcomed Briana, Jhacari, and Briana’s baby Mayson, who was born on January 29, 2024, into our family. We are going through the process to adopt Briana, making us a happy family of seven. Although we’ve loved bonding with them in the close quarters of our small three-bedroom home, we know we need to create a space for Briana and her kids to call their own.
Our dream to convert our basement into an apartment where Briana, Jhacari, and Mayson can live will be completed thanks to the efforts of many volunteers who have stepped up to help out.
Our goal is to raise $12,000, which will help us recover the costs incurred while building a bedroom and living space for Briana and her sons to call home.
Any amount will help us reach our goal of giving Briana, Jhacari, and Mayson the space to make a fresh start and set down roots. Briana plans to get her driver’s license, GED, and find a part-time job after recovering from childbirth.
*Any amount given above the construction costs will go towards the purchase of Briana’s first car.
Thank you from the entire Hallett family!
