Hi, my name is Laura and I’ve recently taken on the challenge of transforming an old, neglected chicken plot right next to my current one in Cambridge where I live. This means my hens will have more space and even happier life. My neighbours and community will enjoy a tidier space with some pretty hens behind a pretty fence and I’ll be one step closer to my dream of living closer to nature for myself and my little boy.

The biggest cost is a new fox-proof fence which comes to about £1200 I’m ready to cover it myself but as a single mum it’s quite a heavy expense. That’s why I’ve set up this fundraiser and below is the original post I shared with my neighbours and community:

“Hi everyone,

I’ve decided to take on the challenge of renting and transforming an old, neglected chicken plot - it’s right opposite Trumpington Orchard and directly next to my existing plot (the one with the funny chickens ) This way I’ll be able to extend my plot and have more hens!

I feel equally excited, grateful and happy but also absolutely terrified about how much work there is to do I’m determined and pretty sure I can manage, but it would be so much easier and more fun with some help from my lovely neighbours and community instead of doing it all alone.

My plan for this autumn is to take down the old fence and put up a new one (fox-proof) and remove all that mess. That’s it for now, the rest of my ideas can wait until spring ✨
