Students at a small Bronx transfer school have created an 8-foot Manticore—part lion, with bat wings and a scorpion tail—built entirely from repurposed materials. (You can view a video about our project and it's history here!)
On May 16, the Manticore takes its next step: it’s been invited to be on view at BEAM Center’s Spring Thing in Red Hook, Brooklyn. This GoFundMe helps us get there physically!
Although Soundview in the Bronx and Red Hook in Brooklyn are just 9 miles apart, getting there by public transportation takes 1.5–2 hours each way: 2 buses, 2 trains, and a walk. Providing round-trip transportation would make it possible for more students and their families to attend—especially those who otherwise couldn’t because of time or cost.
We’re raising funds to help cover:
*Round-trip charter bus transportation for students and families
If we meet that goal, the rest of the funds will go towards:
*A box van/U-Haul to safely transport the Manticore
*T-shirts for the student artists
*A celebratory lunch at the block party
If you’re able to contribute, it would mean so much—truly, no amount is too small! And/or if you can share the project and fundraiser with others who might be interested in supporting, that would be incredibly appreciated as well!
Your support helps students share their work beyond the classroom—and be recognized as artists, makers, and collaborators.
Thank you for helping us get there!!
