I recently obtained full permanent custody of my 19 month old daughter. For some back story, her father verbally, emotionally and financially abused me, it got so much worse when I gave birth in May of 2020, where his threats of violence sent me into early labor. I felt trapped with him and no one knew what I was experiencing because he gaslit me so heavily. When our daughter was 5 weeks old, I awoke to a search warrant and dozens of police tearing apart the home we lived in. I was pulled aside by a female detective who told me if I don’t leave with my child, DHS would take her.

I fled 280 miles away, but was eventually served court papers. After many court hearings and CPS reports against him, I was given full permanent custody in November 2021. Her father was ultimately granted Thursday - Sunday every other weekend despite the binder of evidence proving him unfit. He’s ordered to do all transportation, but because his license is revoked, he pays random people to do the exchanges and transport my baby and most of the time he isn’t present, this was approved by a judge as long as the drivers are licensed and insured. I don’t have a reliable car, as it’s 4 hours one way, so I’m unable to do any transportation, but the entire time he has her she’s being abused and neglected, transportation is not the main problem. She comes back filthy head to toe, has cuts and bruises that don’t add up to the stories he tells, she is severely dehydrated and acts starved, and she regresses to acting like a newborn. Every. Single. Time.

I have so many videos and photos proving neglect and abuse against our daughter during his parenting time, and after taking her into doctors, ERs, and reporting him to DHS, all several times, there hasn’t been a finding of neglect. My daughter is terrified of this man, and her condition is only getting worse and worse when I get her back. I’ve begged CPS to take this seriously, and there’s an ongoing investigation right now, but in order to get him reduced to supervised visitation, I need to go back to court with the new evidence of neglect. I’m hoping to raise $3,500 for a retainer fee on a lawyer that specializes in what I’m seeking out.
