Hi my name is Ulysess Carwise. I have a 4 year old daughter Myrical. I’ve been in a custody battle for my daughter since 2018. My child’s mother was battling addiction and gave our child up for adoption. The adoption agency Bethany Christian Center gave my daughter to the perspective adopted parents when Myrical was just 2 days old. I found out about the adoption after my daughter was taken from the hospital. Months after she was taken from the hospital, I took a DNA test and it was determined I am the father. Months later I went to court to fight for my parental rights. The judge took months to rule on the motion to terminate my parental rights, so the prospective adopted parents hired their own personal lawyer; in addition, to the Bethany Christian Center’s lawyer they already have. The prospective adopted parent’s lawyer has filed multiple motions causing the case to stall because I do not have the finances to continue paying the lawyer. The perspective adoptive parents have lost the case twice in Orange County, with the most recent case in January. They refuse to turn over my daughter and their lawyer has filed another case in Hillsborough County requesting to go back to a third time to try to terminate my parental rights. My daughter Myrical is 4 years old now she has a birthday coming up in a few months so she will be five years old and due to COVID I am currently attending weekly zoom visits. This is the only way I can see my daughter. I also went to court over a year ago to return the visitations back to in-person, but the judge stated he did not have jurisdiction to make that change. I’m seeking financial assistance for help with lawyer fees.
