A guitarist tries to save her unstable boyfriend from his addiction that threatens their band, but when he vanishes before their shows, she is forced to lead alone.

At the center of it all is Aubrey, the band’s guitarist, quiet, loyal, and fiercely driven. As the chaos grows louder, she is forced to step into the spotlight to save both the band and herself.

Beside her is Morgan, the charismatic frontman whose talent burns bright but dangerously fast. His struggle with addiction and pride pulls the band into a spiral that tests every bond and every dream they once shared.

Unplug is a story about ambition, friendship, and the cost of chasing the light too hard. It is a raw and emotional look at how far we will go to hold on to what we love.

The project is a graduate thesis film at Chapman University, created by a group of filmmakers who share a deep love for music and storytelling. The idea came from conversations about fame, identity, and how passion can sometimes turn into self-destruction. It grew into a story about what happens when art, ambition, and personal pain collide.

How Unplug Started

The project started coming to life in Summer 2025, when our team began developing the script, designing the visual style, and assembling a crew of talented artists from Chapman’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. Every step of this journey has been about authenticity, collaboration, and capturing the energy of a real rock story.

We are now entering production, with filming planned for January 2026 in Orange County and Los Angeles. Our locations include a real concert venue and sound stages where we will bring the band’s world to life. The energy, the music, and the emotions behind the characters are all at the heart of what we are creating.

Our Initial Goal and Why Stretch Goals Matter

Our initial goal of $3,000 covers only the most essential production costs, the bare minimum needed to get Unplug made. This amount helps us secure basic equipment, locations, meals, and transportation for the crew during the shoot.
