Help Bring Sofia Gilberto Home
Donation protected
Sofia Gilberto is the American-born granddaughter of Brazilians, Astrud Gilberto (who sang the Girl From Ipanema and won a Grammy in 1964 against the Beatles), and João Gilberto, the creator of Bossa Nova...the two most famous Brazilians on Earth. This fame has unfortunately allowed Sofia's mother to kidnap her from her family, and take her to Brazil, where she is being extensively exploited. The child has 10 META pages (Instagram and Facebook), an IMDB, 2 YouTube channels, and at least a couple of websites. She has music videos, and an album release in Japan, and at 8 years old, regularly appears in full makeup on Social Media. The family has not seen the child in FIVE YEARS.
Unfortunately, the mother, a frustrated songwriter herself, is actually writing Sofia's songs, and marketing the girl as the second coming of Bossa Nova. The Brazilian courts, known for their lack of cooperation with American authorities, have helped to trap the child in Brazil. The mother is a wanted fugitive in NJ for "Interference with custody" (the state term for parental abduction). Even the Brazilian press has refused to properly report the situation, as they are apparently treating Sofia as some sort of "cultural trophy" to be "stolen back" for the nation.
The family needs help to get the word out about Sofia's abduction, and to help to bring her home. The funds will be used for legal expenses, and for a crisis management team to help the family.
