A dream family holiday has turned into a parent’s worst nightmare.

Brad and Mel set off on what was meant to be the holiday of a lifetime with their three children. For their 18-year-old son Ryan, who has autism and is absolutely obsessed with Mickey Mouse, visiting Disney in Japan was a dream come true.

This was more than just a family holiday. It was an opportunity to create precious memories together and for Ryan to experience the magic of Disney and the excitement of seeing his beloved Mickey Mouse.

But what started as a magical family adventure has turned into a heartbreaking and frightening situation.

Although Ryan has flown before without any issues, he has unexpectedly developed an acute and overwhelming fear of flying. His distress is now so severe that he is unable to board a commercial aircraft to return home to Australia.

The family has been advised that Ryan will need to be sedated and transported home on a specialist medical flight.

The quoted cost? An unimaginable $300,000.

This is a figure that no ordinary family could ever prepare for.

Brad and Mel have already made the heartbreaking decision to send their other two children home to Australia with their grandmother, while they remain in Japan, desperately trying to find a safe way to bring Ryan home.
