UPL and You: Help Bring Relief to Pandemic-Stricken India
No one has been immune to the challenges that COVID-19 has brought to each of our lives. We have all seen the catastrophic impact of the current wave of infections in India. Many of our colleagues and their families have been affected. With the latest wave of Covid-19,the condition of the health care infrastructure in the country is dire. Because of the significant supply-demand gaps, health care services in many parts of India are stretched to their limits or non-existent.
One of the places most impacted is Patna, the capital of Bihar and one of the most economically challenged states in India. Bihar’s population is 100 million, with millions in poverty. Even in non-COVID times, it is a struggle to access medical help. Basic facilities, like an ambulance, that we take for granted in the U.S. are sometimes not available.
That's why we are asking your help! We have the opportunity to truly make a difference in the lives of many people when the need is so great.
UPL is asking for your support in raising funds to purchase an ambulance to support our neighbors in Patna, India. UPL North America will match employee contributions, up to $10,000.
The contribution will be through “Ashirwad Sewa Samiti Trust,” an organization run by Prince Raju in Patna. The trust will use our contributions to provide the ambulance directly to the local community. The trust will support the monthly expenses of running the ambulance (driver salary and maintenance). In the past 14 months of the pandemic, this trust has supported significant social work in the local community, including providing meals to the needy. They have also been covered in local press in the local language (Hindi).
Through UPL’s OpenHearts platform, we are committed to helping our friends and neighbors through sustainable solutions when none previously existed. This is one opportunity where we can do exactly that.
