Our mom Is Being Held by ICE Please Help Bring Her Home.
Florence Smith is a 53 year old mother of four who has spent the last 30 years building a quiet, hardworking life in the United States. She came here legally from Sierra Leone through marriage, raised her children alone, and worked every day, even while living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) just to make sure they had a future.
Now, she’s sitting in an ICE detention facility, alone and afraid, while her children are praying for her to come back.
Florence doesn’t have a criminal record. The only marks on her name are minor traffic violations, things like a broken taillight or driving with an expired license. But there’s a story behind that too.
Her green card was taken years ago, despite repeated efforts to renew it. She did everything right, she paid fees, hired a lawyer in 2014, and tried to fix her status, only for that lawyer to run off with her money and leave her vulnerable.
Without a valid green card, she couldn’t renew her driver’s license. But as a single mom with bills, rent, and mouths to feed, she had no choice but to keep driving to work. She wasn’t trying to break the law she was trying to provide and survive.
The Day of “Freedom”
She finally found a job that she loved and wanted to retire at.
On July 4th, 2025, Florence was pulled over for broken taillights something she didn’t even know about. She was then arrested for driving with an expired license. All the charges were later dropped, and bond was paid, but she was never released.
Instead, ICE placed a hold on her. And now she’s in custody, facing possible deportation to a country she hasn’t known in three decades.
All four of her US citizen children depend on her not just emotionally, but financially. She is the breadwinner for 3 of her children. Her sudden detention has already put the family at risk of losing their home.
We are raising money to hire an immigration attorney to stop Florence’s deportation and bring her home where she belongs. Without legal help, she could be taken away permanently leaving her children behind and alone.
If you can donate, please do. If you can’t, please share this and help us give her a chance.
she’s a mother, a provider, a survivor, and a woman who deserves compassion, not punishment. Please help us bring her home.
