Help Bring Our Daughter Julie Back

"Your daughter is in a coma.".

Those were the words I heard in the middle of night, half a world away.

Why am I telling you this?

It's because...I need your help.  Let me tell you what happened first.

My three year old bundle of joy "Julie" had a fever. My mother-in-law had put her bath to cool off. Julie was left unattended for a few minutes as she went to turn on the gas for hot water. When she came back she was submerged underwater...her whole body turned purple.

Please understand...the water was not deep and in any other given day, Julie would have been playing with her toys, laughing and smiling. For some reason...she had fallen unconscious and then into the water...head turned sideways.

Luckily my wife knew CPR and brought her back (with the grace of God).  Little did we know that this was just the beginning of a long...painful...and heartbreaking battle.

My daughter is now in the ICU as she's recovering from a coma. That's when I got the call in my lonely hotel room in Houston. I'm in training to finish up my pilot lessons to then become an airline pilot: a job that would allow me to provide for my family. I had a test the next day but couldn't sleep. Instead I took the first flight to where my family was waiting: Taiwan.

You see, we are waiting for my wife's green card paperwork. On top of that, my wife is pregnant with our second child and needed to be near family and friends to help her.

So I arrived to the hospital in Kaohsiung, jetlagged and exhausted...only to find my wife a nervous wreck and my daughter...my little baby girl...in a coma.

Imagine seeing the person you love the most in the world but being unable to respond to your pleads. The only responses you see are gagging reflexes to the mucus stuck on the breathing tube shoved straight into her lungs.

So... I need your help. The doctor said that her condition is unstable and that she's battling not just potential brain damage, but also pneumonia and the risk of nervous system damage.

But there's hope. When my wife and I spoke to her on her bed, she responded by fighting. She fought to open her eyes and look at us. She fought to give me a hug. She mumbled her lips for a minute to say "mommy".

I dont know if it was due to the medicine they gave her but I could see a tear roll down her left cheek.

I need to be here for my daughter. My daughter needs us...and I need you.

You see, costs are mounting and the rehabilitation hasn’t even begun.  Don't get me wrong. As the father and provider it is my responsibility (and my pleasure) to care for my family...but this has caught me off guard and being in training limits my ability to fund this on my own. I don't even know if I'll have a job when this is all done. My wife, being pregnant at her stage is also unable to do anything.

So I am on my knees now...asking for whatever you can spare to help our little family pick up the pieces be whole again.

Whatever you can donate will go towards our little Julie's hospital bills and our basic expenses such as food, water and shelter near her.  They will also go towards helping Julie recover from such a traumatic experience.

Anything (and I mean anything) from lose change to the cost of an ice cream cone...she’d appreciate it.  We need to reassure her doctors that she had the funding needed for her time spent in the ICU in such a critical condition.

We will update you on her progress with photos and video.

Thank you you and God bless.
