Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers,

I am humbly reaching out for help during one of the most challenging times in my family’s life. My wife, Gladys, was wrongfully detained in January by a sheriff’s deputy while at work and was turned her over to immigration. My wife was the one who called for help and ended up being taken. While I respect law enforcement, I cannot stand by while the law is twisted to carry out unjust actions.

My wife has lived in this country for over 25 years, endured suffering, and still, she has worked hard to move past that. She is the rock to raising our family, a loving wife to me for the past 4 years and mother to all her US citizen children. As a US citizen myself, a chaplain, and a US Army veteran, we had already started the process to secure her residency, but the attorney we hired a couple years ago refused to continue until we paid additional fees we couldn’t afford at the time, which also delayed her processing. 

Now, she is being held in harsh conditions, where she is not only treated unfairly but also dehumanized. Even though she speaks perfect English to officials, she is being treated like a number rather than a person. Her mental, emotional, and physical health are suffering, and our family is feeling the devastating effects.

Our children, especially our one-year-old, desperately need their mom. The separation is taking a toll on all of us. To make matters worse, this crisis comes on the heels of the holidays, when our finances were already stretched thin. I’ve also had to cover the cost of flying my mother-in-law from Spain to help care for the kids while I have taken the responsibility of still working, keeping my house affairs in order as a father, fighting for her release and attending my educational obligations in getting my M.Div.

We need your help to hire a competent and compassionate attorney to bring Gladys home as soon as possible. Legal fees are expensive, and this process is draining us financially. I know times are tough for everyone, but every little bit helps. If you can’t contribute financially, please share our story so others might be able to help.

Queridos amigos, familiares y desconocidos de buen corazón, 

 Me dirijo a ustedes con humildad para pedir ayuda en uno de los momentos más difíciles en la vida de mi familia. Mi esposa, Gladys, fue detenida injustamente en enero por un oficial del sheriff mientras estaba en su trabajo y fue entregada a inmigración. Ella fue quien llamó pidiendo ayuda y terminó siendo llevada. Aunque respeto a las fuerzas del orden, no puedo quedarme de brazos cruzados mientras la ley se tergiversa para llevar a cabo acciones injustas. 

 Mi esposa ha vivido en este país por más de 25 años, ha soportado mucho sufrimiento y, aun así, ha trabajado arduamente para salir adelante. Es el pilar de nuestra familia, una esposa amorosa durante los últimos 4 años y madre de todos sus hijos ciudadanos estadounidenses. Como ciudadano estadounidense, ministro ordenado y veterano del Ejército de los EE.UU., ya habíamos iniciado el proceso para asegurar su residencia, pero el abogado que contratamos hace un par de años se negó a continuar hasta que pagáramos tarifas adicionales que en ese momento no podíamos costear. 

 Ahora, ella está detenida en condiciones duras, donde no solo es tratada injustamente, sino también deshumanizada. A pesar de que habla inglés perfectamente, las autoridades la están tratando como un número en lugar de una persona. Su salud mental, emocional y física se está deteriorando, y nuestra familia está sintiendo los efectos devastadores de esta situación. Nuestros hijos, especialmente nuestro bebé de un año, necesitan desesperadamente a su mamá. La separación nos está afectando profundamente a todos. 

Para empeorar las cosas, esta crisis llega justo después de las festividades, cuando nuestras finanzas ya estaban al límite. También he tenido que asumir el costo de traer a mi suegra desde España para ayudar con el cuidado de los niños, mientras sigo trabajando, manteniendo el hogar como padre, luchando por su liberación y cumpliendo con mis obligaciones educativas en mi camino hacia un M.Div. 

 Necesitamos su ayuda para contratar a un abogado competente y compasivo que nos ayude a traer a Gladys a casa lo antes posible. Los honorarios legales son costosos y este proceso nos está dejando sin recursos. Sé que los tiempos son difíciles para todos, pero cualquier aporte, por pequeño que sea, será de gran ayuda. Si no pueden contribuir económicamente, por favor compartan nuestra historia para que otros puedan ayudar. 

 Gracias por sus oraciones, bondad y generosidad en este momento tan difícil. Juntos, podemos traer a Gladys de vuelta a casa, donde pertenece: con su familia.
