Hi, my name is Hannah, and I’m reaching out to ask for your support in helping move my mom, Naomi—who is living with Alzheimer’s—from New Jersey to Portland, Oregon, so she can be near me and finally get the care she so desperately needs.

My mom has battled years of complex medical issues, misdiagnoses, and unanswered questions, all while we—her three children—tried to care for her the best we could. We lost our dad at a young age, and from then on, my siblings and I were thrust into a situation no children should have to face.

For years, my brother, sister, and I have done everything we can to support our mom emotionally and financially—through countless doctor visits, hospital stays, and medical emergencies—while also trying to build our own lives, careers, and families. But we’ve never had the financial upper hand to fully manage the heavy costs of her care. The emotional and financial toll has been overwhelming.

Now, we have a chance to move our mom into an assisted living facility here in Portland, where she’ll not only receive the memory care she needs, but also be surrounded by love and family—something that’s so important for anyone living with Alzheimer’s.

The challenge is getting her here safely and setting her up for comfort.

We’ve looked into hiring a professional non-medical travel companion to support her during the flight—but we may end up taking unpaid time off work and flying out to bring her ourselves. Either way, the costs are substantial, and we’re trying to avoid draining the savings we’ve set aside to start our own families.

I just recently got married, and to be honest, it feels strange and uncomfortable to be asking for financial help so soon after such a joyful life event. My husband and I are in the early stages of building our future and hoping to start a family. We’ve worked hard to save, but the costs of moving my mom are more than we can carry without risking everything we’ve set aside for our next chapter. We never imagined we’d be in a position where we’d have to choose between our future and our mother’s safety—but that’s where we are. That’s why we’re reaching out now—because we are truly out of options and need help.

Throughout this long and often difficult journey with our mom’s health, so many people—friends, extended family, neighbors, and even strangers—have supported us emotionally and financially in ways we’ll never forget. Why This Goal

We’ve set our goal to cover the essential costs of relocating our mom across the country. While we may take on the trip ourselves instead of hiring a travel companion, the expenses still add up—flights, hotels, baggage fees, and transportation, on top of the initial costs of getting her set up in her new home.

We’ve kept the goal modest and realistic, knowing how many people have already supported us over the years. Every dollar helps bring our mom closer to the care and closeness she deserves.
