Help bring my dad and little brother from Mexico.

Hi my name is Pilar. Some may know me as Becca though! I am usually not the kind to ask for help, and if I do it’s usually because I’m trying to help someone else. But this time I actually need the help . I am currently trying to bring my little brother Sebastian and my dad from Mexico to the United States because my dad is older, sick, and a single dad and unable to work. I am a little short of the funds I need to start the process to get them here ($5000-$6000 in total). Here’s a little back story on how we got into this situation:

4-5 years ago I got a message on Facebook from a girl with my same last name. Right away she started asking personal family questions that no one would know unless they were family. After asking me all of this questions I finally stopped her and said “why are you asking me all of these questions.” To which she said “I’m your cousin and your dads been trying to find you for years.” I went completely white! My dad left when I was a baby to go take care of my sick grandmother, my mom was so upset when he tried to come back years later she never let him come near me. I would hear from his sister from time to time and he even once sent me a gold chain with my name saying “from dad with love.”

When we finally spoke he told me everything and apologized for not being there. Ever since that day, my dad calls and texts me good morning EVERY SINGLE DAY! Shortly after he told me I had a little brother. To which I asked “where’s his mom?” And he told me that one day she dropped my little brother off for a visit and NEVER CAME BACK. She was an alcoholic and it was probably for the best. When my brother was born, I don’t believe he was born in a hospital, so there was no record of him ever even being born. When I found out, I right away fixed that and my dad even let me name him. Sebastian was the name I chose, so he wouldn’t get made fun of when he got to the United States when he told people his name was Jesus. During this time I sent my dad money every now and then, so that my brother didn’t go without anything. But I was eager to meet them both in person.

In 2021 I went to go see them in Guadalajara, Mexico. I was in complete shock when I saw their living conditions. It was a tiny room. I would hardly call it a studio, it was more like a shack. There was a dirty mattress on the floor and a chair, that’s it… Just their belongings in a corner and nothing else. No running water, no bathroom, no nothing! There was a water hose outside and that’s how they showered.

I felt absolutely terrible, not knowing they were living like that and living the way I was. I was able to spoil my brother at the time; got him some new clothes, shoes, toys, and even a skateboard! It was during this trip that my dad let me know that he wanted me to take custody of my little brother Sebastian. He was too old, could hardly work, and he couldn’t even take him to school.

Sebastian is now 9 years old and has never been to school. My dad can’t afford to take him. When I send them money they usually use it for necessities and food. My dad is also scared that if he lets someone else take him to school, that my little brother might get abducted which happens pretty often in Mexico.

A few months ago I finally got the green light from the immigration lawyer that we were going to be able to get him her. But because yes my half brother, I would have to fix my dads papers and then we can get a visa for Sebastian. Which was all great news and ok with me!

However, the fees were a lot more than I was prepared for. It was between $5000-$6000. I right away cancelled the lease to my apartment and lived in my car and occasionally a hotel when I could, to save money and to try and keep my skaters on a skateboard. Unfortunately I am a little short! While I am trying to help my dad and little brother, my mom is also very sick.

If you made it this far, thank you taking the time to read this. If you know me personally, you know I never ask for help unless I REALLY need it. I have until Tuesday May 16th to raise the funds. Anything helps! Thank you

Much Love,
Pilar/Becca
