Help Bring Mabelin Home

My family and I are raising funds to retain an immigration and criminal attorney for my mom, Mabelin. Mabelin has served time at Chowchilla State Prison since 1999. Despite serving over 20 years, Mabelin is potentially facing deportation when they are released.

Mabelin was brought to the United States from Guatemala as an infant. As a preteen, they began using substances to cope with the violence in their home. As a young 13-year-old, they joined a gang and made poor decisions. In 1998, they were 22 years old and made the fatal mistake of being an accomplice. They live their life regretfully and have joined multiple groups while incarcerated to help them cope with thejr decisions and traumas. They have completed numerous mental health, violence prevention, and substance recovery programs. Most recently, they completed Bridges to Life (English & Spanish), Houses of Healing, LitUp, Free to Choose, Alternative Violence Program (AVP), TT (Training to Become a Facilitator), Beyond Violence, Beyond Incarceration (Skypeing with “at risk” youth), and more. Mabelin is committed to healing and better decision-making and is determined to continue their healing journey outside of prison.

We are eager to have her back home to heal together as a family. She has her family’s full support, and we have proactively reached out to Healthright 360, Prototypes, Homeboy Industries, ARC, and other nonprofits to aid her in reentering society. She is also eager to return home to her daughter, mother, sisters, brother, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren (both of whom she has never met). We are asking for any support as we try to raise at least $8,000 for an attorney that specializes in both criminal and immigration. Thank you for your time and consideration.
