My name is Darling Bode Zambrana, and I am a resilient individual with a deep passion for art, music, and cultural diversity. From the age of zero to twelve grew up in Managua Nicaragua ( lista vista barrio). I had the incredible opportunity to come to the USA under the NACARA (Nicaraguan Adjustment and Central American Relief Act) program. At twelve, I arrived in Miami, Florida to live with my biological mother, whom I had never met before. Despite the lack of a strong emotional connection with her, my grandparents provided me with the love and support I needed.
After experiencing domestic violence from my stepfather and emotional trauma with my dad’s partner in NJ, I grew up in the projects at 37 Duncan Ave and 110 Duncan in Jersey City ( with a puerto rican family that loved me. The whole neighborhood was predominantly a puerto Rican community, with their loving homes rich in culture and vibrant salsa dancing, had a profound impact on me. At fifteen, my life changed dramatically when I was adopted by a wonderful German family, enriching my appreciation for different cultures.
Currently, I am pursuing my Master of Public Health at Rutgers School of Public Health, focusing on epidemiology and business administration. Through my studies, I have learned that diversity not only enriches our cities but also empowers the next generation. This understanding drives my desire to organize a cultural celebration that will deeply impact our community.
I am thrilled to introduce Los Pleneros de la 21, a renowned performing ensemble and non-profit community organization based in East Harlem. Founded in 1983 by NEA Heritage Fellow Juan J. ‘Juango’ Gutiérrez and Master Plenero Marcial Reyes Arvelo, their mission is to promote cultural celebration, community connection, and accessible arts education through the appreciation of Puerto Rican Bomba and Plena. Please visit their website at Los Pleneros de la 21 to learn more.
Having seen LP21 perform twice, I can attest to their magical ability to bridge the gap between performers and audience with their powerful drumming. I believe hosting LP21 at the Hackensack Performing Arts Center would be the perfect venue for this unforgettable event. I am raising funds to benefit Hackensack Performing Arts Center Inc., and any donation will help make an impact. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me. For more information about Hackensack Performing Arts Center Inc., visit HACPAC.
I am also delighted to invite you to a special Wine and Cheese Evening at the Cultural Harmony Celebration in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. This event is designed to indulge in fine wines ( trader joes- red and white), exquisite cheeses, and delightful company.
