Help Bring Kaidan Home

Hi, my name is Robyn Angus, and I am the mother of 4 beautiful and amazing children. We are an indigenous family of 6 living in the beautiful community of Paradise in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia. We have lived here since early 2020 after relocating from BC.
Our campaign is a plea for awareness and assistance for Kaidan our oldest son, he will be 20 in July.
Kaidan lives with a rare chromosomal diagnosis. At present there are less than 5 documented cases in the literature.
As a result of Kaidan's diagnosis at 10 years old, he is severely intellectually disabled and has lived and thrived through many struggles throughout his life, starting at birth.
All of which we've navigated as a family of 6, with the support of family and friends. Now we are appealing to everyone worldwide for justice and awareness for our family and those like ours.
Why we need help -
In the fall of 2023 Kaidan was diagnosed with Insulin dependant Type 1 Diabetes and Hypothyroidism simultaneously.
Despite raised concerns, we, as his voice were ignored. So, continued his treatments per the Doctors directions.
December 22, 2023 we lost our home, family pets and irreplaceable memorabilia to a house fire, while christmas shopping with Kaidan his siblings and two friends children, 2 hours from home.
After generous community & insurance support, we spent the next several months navigating our new normal and rebuilding our family home.
Kaidan's diabetes and continued troublesome medical symptoms persisted and progressed, without satisfactory guidance from the medical professionals we were left with more questions than answers.
In the spring of 2024, Kaidan's father and I made a decision to withdraw his insulin, while monitoring his blood sugar levels. We continued on with life and noticed a huge increase in quality of life for Kaidan. We were making progress with his health, but needed and were seeking more help and guidance to feel confident he was truly ok. Pleading with his medical team to consider his rare diagnosis as a possible player to his symptoms and need for specialized care.
July 2024 Kaidan turns 19 !! He was so excited as the house was coming together and he had just spent time with his uncles he hadn't seen since 2020.
August 22, 2024 - the day our lives changed in an unimaginable way. Kaidan was removed by Adult Protection Social Workers, from his work program under the Nova Scotia's Adult Protection Act.
A claim that Kaidan's life was in immediate danger and needed the intervention of the Minister to protect his life from harm/neglect. As he is a disabled legal adult in Nova Scotia, they were able to apply for the removal without knowledge to his family and sole caregivers. And appoint a guardian since he does not have the mental capacity to make decisions to protect himself.
The claims made about my family are baseless and unjust. We are seeking help with the legal fees that are to come with a trial. Estimated at $10,000+/day. Despite our ongoing communication and willingness to participate in a plan to bring our son home, in 10 months we have only progressed to weekend daytime visits. This week it has been confirmed that Trial is our only way forward if we want to bring our son home.
He has missed being able to move into his new home, holidays, healing as a family; instead he is placed in a facility that will be closing next spring in response to the Province's remedy obligation with the Disability Rights Coalition.
His health concerns have evolved while in care and we feel that this is the only path forward of reuniting our family in the near future.
My son wants to come home and does not understand why he is not able to live with us. Please help us achieve that.
I will be sharing more about Kaidan and his life on his TikTok page @kaidanangus
