Two years ago, Dima and his family came to the United States seeking safety and refuge from the war in Ukraine. Like so many families fleeing conflict, they came with hope — hope to rebuild their lives, raise their child in peace, and contribute positively to their new community.

Dima entered the U.S. through the Uniting for Ukraine (U4U) program and has been following the legal process ever since. His family has been waiting for a response on their parole renewal, which is still pending.

Dima worked hard and long hours to do his best to support his family - working on gutters and then making deliveries for Walmart on the side for extra income. Recently, while sitting in his vehicle waiting for a pickup order at Walmart, he was approached by ICE and was taken into custody.

Dima is the sole provider for his household. His wife stays home to care for their 5-year-old daughter, who is now suddenly without her father and without the stability they worked so hard to build. His detention has left the family devastated — emotionally and financially.

Dima’s court hearing is less than a month away, and his family urgently needs to secure experienced legal representation to fight for his release and keep their family together. Immigration legal defense is costly, and without help, this family faces an impossible situation.

My husband (Joseph) met Dima when a mutual friend advised Dima to get his vehicle repaired at Joseph’s work. Joseph then quickly befriended Dima and his family, and is now helping with many aspects of this journey.
