Help Bring Indigenous Art, Color & Community to the Heart of McKinleyville! ✨
We're raising $3,000 to complete the next phase of community street art in McKinleyville!
Following the success of the Hiller Road Quickbuild Mural Project, a new community-driven public art project is moving forward at the intersection of Hiller Road and McKinleyville Avenue.
The McKinleyville Community Street Art Project is a collaboration between Humboldt County Public Works, the McKinleyville Municipal Advisory Committee's Sub-Committee for Active Transportation (CAT), and Sea Goat Farmstand & Folk School, which is serving in the project coordination role.
A Celebration of Indigenous Art & Community
This exciting new mural will feature an original design by Sam Jones, a Hoopa Tribal artist, and will be brought to life by both Sam Jones and renowned local muralist Ben Goulart (The Mural Man).
The design celebrates Indigenous culture, local identity, and our connection to place while transforming a highly visible intersection into a welcoming community landmark.
Why Street Art?
Street murals are about much more than paint on pavement.
Across the country and around the world, communities are using street art to:
Beautify public spaces
Increase pedestrian visibility
Support walking, biking, and active transportation
Encourage slower driving through visual traffic-calming
Build community pride and identity
Create a stronger sense of place
Support local artists and cultural expression
Studies have shown that colorful, well-designed public spaces encourage people to spend more time walking, biking, shopping, and connecting with their community.
What Your Donation Supports
Every dollar raised goes directly toward:
* Artist stipends
* Traffic-grade paint and mural materials
* Surface preparation and installation
* Project coordination and community engagement
* Celebrating Indigenous art and culture in public spaces
Our Goal: $3,000
While Humboldt County Public Works is providing traffic control and supporting infrastructure improvements, the mural itself is being funded through community sponsorships and grassroots donations.
We still need to raise $3,000 to fully fund this project and fairly compensate the artists who are bringing it to life.
