My old man is well known across the globe. From the continent of Africa to the great lakes of Ontario, the broad wheatbelt of Western Australia and most recently, the tropical paradise of Cambodia you know him, you love him, it's Big Kev!

Since 2019, he has been over there doing lots of positive work. His experience as an academic and skills in teaching and communication have no doubt helped many others over the years. Whether it's donating time and money, helping with the mission work of his church or working on projects with an aim to bring up education standards in Cambodia,even in his retirement dad finds ways to put his skills to use. Not only that but Big Kev always manages to find community and make plenty of friends. His charm, wit and open heart make that happen and right now I'm calling out to that group of friends across the world for a bit of help.

Dad recently had to be taken to the emergency room in Phnom Penh after a collapse. Friends and neighbours were keeping an eye on him and were able to assist at the time but he was unable to afford hospital costs, was discharged and collapsed again. At this point, my younger brother Craig heard about the trouble and helped get him into a private hospital where they have been able to provide proper care. He's now doing much better, though he has been struggling to walk, and it has become clear that he cannot stay in Cambodia on his own much longer. Thankfully, my younger brother Craig and my uncle Ian are both stepping in to help and luckily for dad they are in a position to do so.

I've setup this fundraiser to support those who have already pledged their support and put themselves out of pocket by doing so. While it's relieving to know that my brother has financial means to assist our old man, it's never something that is planned for and this puts pressure on him and his young family. After sending what little money I could offer, and realising it wasn't going to make a dent in the costs, I began to think about how I could help. When thinking about my dad, the first thing that came to mind was how many people I know who love him and would gladly help if they knew he needed it.

You've all read these things before, any amount helps and all funds will go towards costs associated with private hospital care, travel and accomodation costs for supporting family and flights to get Kevin back home. Dad has decided to give most of his belongings away in Cambodia rather than trying to bring them back to Perth so any leftover funds will go towards helping him to settle back into life in Australia.

It feels weird asking for money but I know that there's at least a hundred people out there who would happily part with ten, twenty or fifty dollars to help a friend. I also know that anything would be a huge help to us right now.
