We write asking for financial support on behalf of Asonta Malual, a mother of two seeking to adopt her biological nephew.
Asonta has obtained an attorney and is working tirelessly to ensure her nephew is raised by a loving family that will expose him to his rich Sudanese heritage. Asonta is unfortunately working against a time constraint and will soon head to trial to fight for her nephew to be in her care.
Asonta’s family has already contributed over $8,000 in legal fees and kindly asks for support to continue their fight for their nephew.
In Asonta’s home, her nephew will live with his two cousins, eat Sudanese food, learn Arabic and Dinka, and maintain a relationship with his two sisters and four cousins.
Asonta’s nephew is unfortunately in a home where he has absolutely NO connection or communication with his entire Sudanese family and heritage. As a young Sudanese child in Maine, we believe her nephew deserves to be raised by people who look like him and can foster a connection to his Sudanese heritage.
All donations will go towards retaining her attorney and additional legal fees, as her family prepares for a trial. Please help us ensure Asonta’s nephew is raised in a culturally appropriate home to secure his identity and guarantee a relationship with not only his sisters, but his cousins who are close in age.
UPDATE 3/28/2024: One of three motions was denied. The judge is suggesting a case management hearing, meaning we will have the chance to present our side of the case.
